Wikipedia:WikiProject Islam/Assessment
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome to the assessment department of WikiProject Islam! This department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia articles related to Islam. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work. The ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WikiProject Islam}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories of Category:Islam-related articles by quality, which serves as the foundation for an automatically generated worklist.

- You can list it in the section for assessment requests below, and someone will take a look at it. Alternately, you can ask any member of the project to rate the article again.
- Aren't the ratings subjective?

[edit] Requesting an assessment
If you have made significant changes to an article and would like an outside opinion on a new rating for it, please feel free to list it below. If you are interested in more extensive comments on an article, please use the peer review department (not yet available) instead. Please archive requests that are complete.
[edit] New requests
Please place new requests (in the format, # [[article name]] -- ~~~~) at the bottom of the list.
- Nizari, a new rating and feed back would be appreciated. (Water Stirs (talk) 11:06, 3 April 2009 (UTC))
[edit] Unassessed articles
Kindly add all the un-assessed Islam related articles here.
[edit] Instructions
An article's assessment is generated from the class and importance parameters in the {{WikiProject Islam}} template banner on its talk page (see the project banner instructions for more details on the exact syntax).
- {{WikiProject Islam|class=XXX|importance=YYY}}
The following values may be used for the class parameter:
FA (adds articles to Category:FA-Class Islam-related articles)
FL (adds articles to Category:FL-Class Islam-related articles)- A (adds articles to Category:A-Class Islam-related articles)
GA (adds articles to Category:GA-Class Islam-related articles)- B (adds articles to Category:B-Class Islam-related articles)
- C (adds articles to Category:C-Class Islam-related articles)
- Start (adds articles to Category:Start-Class Islam-related articles)
- Stub (adds articles to Category:Stub-Class Islam-related articles)
- NA (for pages, such as templates or disambiguation pages, where assessment is unnecessary; adds pages to Category:Non-article Islam-related pages)
Articles for which a valid class is not provided are listed in Category:Unassessed Islam-related articles. The class should be assigned according to the quality scale below.
The following values may be used for the importance parameter:
- Top (adds articles to Category:Top-importance Islam-related articles)
- High (adds articles to Category:High-importance Islam-related articles)
- Mid (adds articles to Category:Mid-importance Islam-related articles)
- Low (adds articles to Category:Low-importance Islam-related articles)
The parameter is not used if an article's class is set to NA, and may be omitted in those cases. The importance should be assigned according to the importance scale below.
[edit] Quality scale
| Class | Criteria | Reader's experience | Editing suggestions | Example | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
The article has attained featured article status.
|
Professional, outstanding, and thorough; a definitive source for encyclopedic information. | No further content additions should be necessary unless new information becomes available; further improvements to the prose quality are often possible. | Islam | |||
The article has attained featured list status.
|
Professional standard; it comprehensively covers the defined scope, usually providing a complete set of items, and has annotations that provide useful and appropriate information about those items. | No further content additions should be necessary unless new information becomes available. | The Twelve Imams | |||
The article is well organized and essentially complete, having been reviewed by impartial reviewers from a WikiProject or elsewhere. Good article status is not a requirement for A-Class.
|
Very useful to readers. A fairly complete treatment of the subject. A non-expert in the subject matter would typically find nothing wanting. | Expert knowledge may be needed to tweak the article, and style issues may need addressing. Peer-review may help. | Jesus | |||
The article has attained good article status.
|
Useful to nearly all readers, with no obvious problems; approaching (although not equalling) the quality of a professional encyclopedia. | Some editing by subject and style experts is helpful; comparison with an existing featured article on a similar topic may highlight areas where content is weak or missing. | Hezbollah | |||
| B | The article is mostly complete and without major issues, but requires some further work to reach good article standards.
|
Readers are not left wanting, although the content may not be complete enough to satisfy a serious student or researcher. | A few aspects of content and style need to be addressed, and expert knowledge is increasingly needed. The inclusion of supporting materials should also be considered if practical, and the article checked for general compliance with the manual of style and related style guidelines. | Islamic calendar | ||
| C | The article is substantial, but is still missing important content or contains a lot of irrelevant material. The article should have some references to reliable sources, but may still have significant issues or require substantial cleanup.
|
Useful to a casual reader, but would not provide a complete picture for even a moderately detailed study. | Considerable editing is needed to close gaps in content and address cleanup issues. | Aqidah | ||
| Start | An article that is developing, but which is quite incomplete and, most notably, lacks adequate reliable sources.
|
Provides some meaningful content, but the majority of readers will need more. | Provision of references to reliable sources should be prioritised; the article will also need substantial improvements in content and organisation. | Umrah | ||
| Stub | A very basic description of the topic.
|
Provides very little meaningful content; may be little more than a dictionary definition. | Any editing or additional material can be helpful. The provision of meaningful content should be a priority. | Ahmad ibn A'zham | ||
| List | Meets the criteria of a stand-alone list, which is an article that contains primarily a list, usually consisting of links to articles in a particular subject area. | There is no set format for a list, but its organization should be logical and useful to the reader. | Lists should be lists of live links to Wikipedia articles, appropriately named and organized. | List of mosques | ||
| Disambig | Any disambiguation page falls under this class. | The page serves to distinguish multiple articles that share the same (or similar) title. | Additions should be made as new articles of that name are created. Pay close attention to the proper naming of such pages, as they often do not need "(disambiguation)" appended to the title. | Islam (disambiguation) | ||
| Category | Any category falls under this class. | Categories are mainly used to group together articles within a particular subject area. | Large categories may need to be split into one or more subcategories. Be wary of articles that have been miscategorized. | Category:WikiProject Islam | ||
| Template | Any template falls under this class. The most common types of template include infoboxes and navboxes. | Different types of template serve different purposes. Infoboxes provide easy access to key pieces of infomation about the subject. Navboxes are for the purpose of grouping together related subjects into an easily accessible format, to assist the user in navigating between articles. | Infoboxes are typically placed at the upper right of an article, while navboxes normally go across the very bottom of a page. Beware of too many different templates, as well as templates that give either too little, too much, or too specialized information. | Template:WikiProject Islam |
[edit] Importance scale
| Label | Criteria | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Top {{Top-importance}} |
Subject is extremely important, even crucial, to its specific field. Reserved for subjects that have achieved international notability within their field. | Islam |
| High {{High-importance}} |
Subject is extremely notable, but has not achieved international notability, or is only notable within a particular continent. | Fazl Mosque |
| Mid {{Mid-importance}} |
Subject is only notable within its particular field or subject and has achieved notability in a particular place or area. | Abrahamic religions |
| Low {{Low-importance}} |
Subject is not particularly notable or significant even within its field of study. It may only be included to cover a specific part of a notable article. | Henry Stubbe |
| NA {{NA-importance}} |
Subject importance is not applicable. Generally applies to non-article pages such as redirects, categories, templates, etc. | Category:WikiProject Islam |
| ??? {{-importance}} |
Subject importance has not yet been assessed. | n/a |
