Requested moves is a place for requesting the retitling of an article, a template, or a page in the Wikipedia namespace. Any logged-in user who has been registered for more than four days and has made at least ten edits can use the [move] tab located at the top of each page to perform simple moves (see Help:Moving a page). However, administrator help is required in some situations. Such moves can be listed here.

In some situations the appropriateness of a move may be under dispute, and discussion is necessary in order to reach a consensus. There is no obligation to list such move requests here; discussions of page moves can always be carried out at the article's talk page without adding an entry. This page may be seen as a place to advertise move debates that would benefit from wider community input, or for users to request assistance from administrators in moving pages.

Most move requests are processed by a handful of regular contributors who are familiar with naming conventions, nonbinding precedents, and page moving procedures. Requests are generally processed after seven days, although backlogs of a few days develop occasionally. If there is a clear consensus after this time, the request will be closed and acted upon. If not, the administrator may choose to re-list the request to allow time for consensus to develop, or close it as "no consensus".

[edit] Processes beyond the scope of this page

Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:

[edit] Requesting uncontroversial moves

If the move you are suggesting is uncontroversial and technically possible, please feel free to move the page yourself. Moves are possible (for registered users with accounts over four days old) when the desired name is a red link, or in cases where the target is a simple redirect—a redirect to the current title, with no prior versions in its edit history. After moving a page, update its text to reflect the new title.

If the only obstacle to an uncontroversial move is a navigation aid (e.g. a redirect or an unnecessary disambiguation page with a minor edit history), the template db-move can be used instead to have that page deleted under criterion for speedy deletion G6.

If there has been any past debate about the best title for the page, or if anyone could reasonably disagree with the move, then treat it as controversial. Otherwise, post your request in the Uncontroversial requests section of this page. If the page has recently been moved without discussion, then you may revert the move and initiate a discussion of the move on the talk page of the article. (See also: Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle.) If this reversion requires administrator assistance, it is also eligible to be listed here. When listing this kind of request, please include a link showing that you have attempted to discuss the page move first.

[edit] Requesting potentially controversial moves

Create a section at the bottom of the talk page of the page you have requested to be moved. It should be formatted like this:

Requested move
A brief reason as to why the name of the page should be changed. Limit this to a single paragraph. ~~~~

Instead of "Requested move", any name is allowed; however, "Requested move" is suggested. "NewName" is what you want the new name of the page to be.

This can also be done by clicking the "new section" tab on the talk page and inserting Note that the Subject/headline should be left blank, as the heading, Requested move, is created along with a location for survey and discussion by this template, and that the template must be subst'd. The template will automatically include your signature.

Optional: Add at the top of the talk page, where "Section" is the name of the heading, if other than "Requested move" — moveheader will assume Requested move.

[edit] Moving several pages at once

Follow the above procedures for one of the pages being moved, creating a centralized location for discussion. Be sure to list all the other pages to be moved, and include your signature at the end of the request by including four tildes (~~~~).

Requested move
A brief reason as to why the name of the page should be changed.
SecondPage → NewSecondPage
ThirdPage → NewThirdPage
etc. ~~~~

For each other page to be moved, add NewName to the top of its talk page. NewName is the proposed name for that page, and Talk:FirstPage is a link to the centralized discussion. Talk:FirstPage defaults to the section name "Requested move", so include a section heading if necessary. Note in the formatting shown above, you can force the list of moves to appear by including
at the end of each line, but not by using an asterisk, * at the beginning of each line.

[edit] Uncontroversial requests

Only list proposals here that are clearly uncontroversial but require administrator help to complete (for example, spelling and capitalization fixes). Do not list a proposed page move in this section if there is any reasonable possibility that it could be opposed by anyone. Please list new requests at the bottom of the list in this section and use rather than copying previous entries. The template will automatically include your signature. No edits to the article's talk page are required. If you object to a proposal listed here, please relist it in the Contested requests section below.

[edit] Contested requests

With the exception of a brief description of the problem or objection to the move proposal, please do not discuss move proposals here. If you support a contested move proposal, please consider following the instructions above to add the proposed page move to the "Other proposals" section below by substituting the move template on the article's talk page. Proposals that remain here after seven days will be removed.

  • (Discuss)Dhurarara!!Durarara!! — Official romanized title, per official website (http://www.durarara.com/); for some reason, alternative titles were all blacklisted instead of being made into redirects (Dulalala!!, also blacklisted, should also be a redirect to the official title, if the admin has time.) — {{#ifeq:{sig}|no||Doceirias (talk) 04:23, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

  • (Discuss)2009 Iranian election protests2009 Iranian election aftermath — The response to the election in Iran obviously involves more than just the protest(s). This was a good title at first, but I think that the events here have grown beyond just the protests. Also, considering Iranian history and the Islamic traditions of public mourning after 40 days, this is likely to become more involved over time.

  • (Discuss)ChestnutCastanea — This article is about the genus Castanea, some of whose members are called "chestnut", and some "chinkapin" (chinquapin). "Chestnut" is not really a correct title, as the chinkapins are not called chestnuts. I therefore propose that the article title is changed to the same as the subject: "Castanea". The current disambiguation page Castanea would be deleted, and the one (really) other meaning of "Castanea" would be dealt with by a hatnote. Richard New Forest (talk) 17:59, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
  • (Discuss)Henman HillAorangi Terrace — As the name of the area changes depending on which British player is on court, the official name should be the name of the page. Henman Hill may be the name which is used the most, but its usage has declined. Hera1187 (talk) 17:56, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
  • (Discuss)Mayagüez incidentMayaguez incident — This looks like a bit of overzealous adaption of the spelling of the Puerto Rican placename. From several sources I have consulted the ship's name was not registered with a ü, but with a regular u. Regardless of the ship's registered name, the common name principle should apply: the ship is referred to in contemporary news accounts as Mayaguez and not Mayagüez. Similarly, the incident—in the references listed in the article—is referred to as the Mayaguez incident (with no umlaut over the u).
SS MayagüezSS Mayaguez — (see above for rationale.)

  • (Discuss)GyeongseongKeijo — As I said before, this article is about the time then Korea was a part of Japan, so it seems to be more natural to call the city in Japanese way. Also, according to Google, "Keijo" is used 10 times more often than "Gyeongseong" and old maps, such as this one use the name "Keijo". Elmor_rus (talk) 17:51, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
  • (Discuss)Waikato (region/district)Waikato — Waikato is the common name for this region, which is the primary meaning of the term. Waikato already redirects here. Right now, there's a very confusing title for this page, which is unnecessary disambiguation. YeshuaDavidTalk • 00:40, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

  • (Discuss)Metro Station (band)Metro StationMetro Station is currently a redirect to this article, so it looks like the disambiguation isn't needed. Although most of the links are to this article, there have been a few changes to the redirect, and sometimes it has redirected to Metro station, so I don't know if a move would be uncontroversial. snigbrook (talk) 22:40, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
  • (Discuss)BallkidBall boy — I'm all for gender neutrality, but in this case the word "ballkid" is so very rarely used, and even if it were "ball kid" (with a space) would seem more correct gramatically. I'll suggest "ball boy" at the moment, simply as across all sports there appear to be more ball boys than ball girls. Note, I would propose moving the current Ballboy page to Ballboy (disambiguation). Aubergine (talk) 21:00, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
  • (Discuss)2008 South Ossetia war2008 Russian-Georgian war — The earliest of the discussions barely qualifies as a discussion, and the one that was held after that was far too unfocused in getting down exactly why something should be the page title. I want to give all viewpoints equal opportunities to express their arguments, and I feel this is best done in a coordinated environment where the individual arguments are clearly delineated. It works like this: a subsection notes the proposal, and subsections underneath that for the reasons. After a period of time, a neutral party will close the discussion. I have decided that this person will not be me. Please, limit the discussion to be relevant to the name of the page, and not because of procedures. —harej (talk) 20:47, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
  • (Discuss)TauonTau (particle) — The name "tauon" is rarely used in the field of physics for the third generation lepton. The name "tau lepton" is occasionally used. The name "tau" or "τ" is nearly always used. I realize that this is inconsistent with the naming of the muon and the electron (second and first generation lepton, respectively), but wikipedia should describe, not prescribe, usage. The Wilschon (talk) 17:01, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
  • (Discuss)Blackened (song)Blackened — This is the only entry listed on the disambiguation page Blackened that is not simply a partial title match. As there are no other articles which could be called "Blackened", the qualifier is unnecessary. Neelix (talk) 15:53, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
  • (Discuss)SamandaSam and Amanda Marchant — They have always been known as Sam and Amanda, even at their time in the house, the nickname was given to them by the press and is not used often other than their brief but minor pop career. Donnie Park (talk) 11:27, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

  • (Discuss)NeuengammeNeuengamme concentration camp — # to be consistent with other camps, name change should be to "Neuengamme concentration camp"# article's name does not accurately reflect article's contents:## the current name misdirects by not addressing the camps.## when someone interested in the holocaust sees the current title, he will not be informed that this is an important subject containting relevent info.## the article is only about the Neuengamme concentration camps.##wp policy is for the title to acurately convey the article. the name should be expanded to fully clarify the subject.thank you-- diremarc (talk) 07:52, 2 July 2009 (UTC)-- diremarc (talk) 07:49, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
  • (Discuss)2009 flu pandemic by country2009 flu pandemic by continentI proposed this move 5 days ago, putting notices up on several related article talk pages, and only one other editor has commented in support of a move. (Given the lack of response, the move can hardly be deemed controversial, since the article and subarticles are organised that way.) Once moved, the former title can simply host a list of country articles. I'd do the move myself, but there seems to be some sort of block prohibiting article moves ... perhaps due to dickery? Please do or advise. Bosonic dressing (talk) 02:38, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

  • (Discuss)Chiţcani, MoldovaChiţcani — The other two uses of "Chiţcani" are for villages, which lack administrative status and are now linked to at the top for disambiguation purposes. This article refers to a commune, which does have its own administration, and appears to be the primary topic. — Biruitorul Talk 23:59, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
  • (Discuss)Algernon SydneyAlgernon Sidney — The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography and the biographies of Sidney printed by the Cambridge University Press and the Princeton University Press (amongst others) used an 'i' instead of a 'y' in Algernon's second name. It is the preferred spelling used by almost everyone who writes on Sidney. User:Johnbull 19:50, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
  • (Discuss)Peer-to-peerPeer-to-peer (network architecture) — "Peer-to-peer" is used both to refer to the network architecture and to peer-to-peer file sharing (and some others). Readers and editors often expect to see an article about file sharing here, which is why this article is more popular than its client-server counterpart, why most of the what-links-here link here in the context of file sharing, and why a lot of content that belongs in file-sharing frequently ends up being added here. A redirect page at peer-to-peer will make this distinction, and link to both the move destination and file sharing. It would also let us look at the stats tool over the course of one day to determine where readers are actually going. M 19:33, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
  • (Discuss)User:Liz Beres/KEIGWIN+COMPANYKEIGWIN + COMPANY — When I requested the name of this page to be changed from Liz Beres to KEIGWIN + COMPANY, I was told that KEIGWIN + COMPANY was on the black list of names and therefore could not be confirmed. This is the only proper title for this page and those interested in learning about the dance company will not be able to find it if this change is not approved. Thank you for respecting our behest. Liz Beres (talk) 16:08, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
  • (Discuss)American BeaverCanadian Beaver — The proper scientific name of this animal is 'Castor canadensis', quite literally "Canadian Beaver". A Google search for "Canadian Beaver" yields 68,200 results while "American Beaver" yields only 58,500 or 16.6% less - a significant difference. The Beaver is also a profoundly important national symbol in Canada, where it is just any other animal in the United States, limited primarily to its north. If there is no consensus once again for this move, an alternative name might be "Beaver (Castor canadensis)" which would give you the common name used throughout its natural habitat with the scientific name for disambiguation; however, I believe there is ample reason to make it "Canadian Beaver". - Nbpolitico (talk) 13:13, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
  • (Discuss)Bruno (character)Brüno (character) — All promotional materials for the film list his name with the umlaut. Regardless of how his name was spelled on the TV show, we should use the most recent spelling with the umlaut. ShadowUltra (talk) 00:34, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

  • (Discuss)Keith House (disambiguation)Keith House — Move disambiguation page to "Keith House" name, as there is no obvious primary usage for this name. (Think about it, have you ever heard of any "Keith House" before? Any one that is NRHP-listed is no more important than another, and it was random whether an editor in Texas was active before one in Arkansas. doncram (talk) 06:57, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
  • (Discuss)Falling into InfinityFalling Into Infinity — Page was moved a few years ago due to "naming conventions", however, "Into" is capitalized on the album's cover I believe that is grounds for moving the article.
