There are many new articles that are being created that appeal to a wide audience. Likewise, there are many people with good ideas for new articles that might interest other people but they want to discuss it with others first. This page is for discussing ideas you have about new articles before you create them. It allows you to ask the opinion of others before spending time in creating an article. If you post here, you should explain (briefly) why you think an article is merited (that is, why a subject is notable), and you should provide at least a couple of links (to demonstrate that there are reliable sources for such an article).

Here are other options besides posting to this page:

• If you simply want to suggest a topic for an article without giving any details or sources, go to Wikipedia:Requested articles.

• If you're not a registered editor, and you've written a complete article, you can submit the text of that article at Wikipedia:Articles for creation, for review (and, if acceptable) posting to Wikipedia as new article.

• For questions about general knowledge, please use the Wikipedia:Reference desk

• For questions about how to use Wikipedia, the place to go is Wikipedia:New contributors' help page

• If your idea is directly related to a specific article that already exists, it is probably better to discuss it on that article's talk page, or at the relevant WikiProject (which normally is listed at the top of the article's talk page).

• If you're a registered editor, discussing articles before creating them is optional. If you're ready, be bold and start the page!

The references to support the facts and show notability should go at the bottom, and even better attached to the text with ref tags so that we know where the facts come from. Also you may as well generalise it to GreenPlumbers, not just the USA branch, as that would be more notable, and you already have some facts about it. A lot of the article is the list of workshops. Please check that this is not a copyright infringement that copies a big chunk of text from somewhere else. Thank you for the feedback. I have been going through adding the references in their respective locations. I have removed half of the workshops and am working on writing it a little differently. The GreenPlumber account was my old account. Trying to prevent COI. Am truly interested in getting something unbiased and unpromotional up about the company because I believe it is a great new take on the plumbing industry. [edit] New article on Takou Himiona Kamira

I have drafted an article based on my great grandfather and his manuscripts which have been held in a vault in a library for many years. They have not been allowed general access to date but we are working towards enabling access over the upcoming years so that they may be studied.

Published sources about the man himself and his work therefore do not exist yet, aside from one small story that he wrote (not online), and which was published by a university on the 60s; and a newspaper obituary published in 1953 (also not online) - I have referenced these. While the obituary is not online and nor is the story, the Professor at the university and the reference to the story can be found.

I think the main problem is that Wikipedia emphasises legitimate sources but there are none of the nature I think people are used to - e.g. peer reviewed articles, books, etc. In other words, this will be the first if my article is allowed to remain on Wikipedia and it is exciting to think that once up, many people here will find it and it will encourage them to start adding.

I have a future book planned on this man and his work but that is probably a couple of years away. The research for this will be mainly through studying his manuscripts and interviewing the old people to find out what they can recall.

Can this article be allowed in Wikipedia mainly without published sources like this?

Hi, unfortunately this will be counted as Original research as Wikipedia is not supposed to be the first place that facts are made known. You have put the proposed article in the right place to save it from being deleted from main space. I will take a look at your proposal, because it could still be a learning experience for you! [edit] Created a page about the Farah massacre in Afghanistan

Found out today the largest massacre of civillians by the USA in Afghanistan was not listed.

I tried to make a page but its rubbish. How do you make the page better?

I did a copyedit to fix spelling word order and make internal links. Suggestions for improvement: can you find an official US government web site that mentions this? A reference would be good to give the official point of view. Negative reactions from other would be good to include. Which province is it in? What time of day did it happen? A location map would be good. Is the best term "massacre"? If other terms are used they could become redirects to it: Farah massacre. See if you can find other articles that should reference this one, and create a link with [[Farah massacre]]. Then the article will not be an orphan. History

The Pressure Pipe Inspection Company was established by Dr. Brian Mergelas in 1997 after he received his Ph.D. in physics at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. During his time at the university, he studied under Professor David Atherton, who would help steer Mergelas toward his future career.

In the late 1980s, Atherton had been approached by the water sector to examine some challenges with large diameter pre-stressed pipe rupturing, along with corrosion on the pre-stressing wires. Atherton was asked to act as an international expert in pipeline inspection technology to determine if something could be done to inspect the distressed water pipe. From there, Atherton began research and developed a new technology called Remote Field Transformer Coupling (RFTC). RFTC offered water supply system managers information on the location, distribution and number of wire breaks in their pipeline infrastructure.

While Mergelas was working on his degree, he studied technologies pertaining to the oil and gas sector and performed pipeline inspection work for oil and gas transmission pipelines. However, Mergelas eventually shifted his interests to water pipeline inspection after he became intrigued by the opportunities the industry and Atherton's RFTC technology presented. With RFTC as a base, Mergelas began PPIC in 1997 as a means to help utilities assess the condition of their infrastructure in hopes to preserve pipelines, save money and retain valuable water resources.

Remote Field Transformer Coupling (RFTC)

Remote Field Transformer Coupling (RFTC) technology accurately establishes the baseline condition of prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP). The system detects and quantifies the number of breaks in the prestressing wire that reinforces the concrete pipe. RFTC provides water and wastewater system operators with information on the location, distribution and number of wire breaks anywhere along the length of the pipeline.

How it works:

The RFTC technology functions much in the same way as a radio transmitter and receiver. The "transmitter" produces an electromagnetic field. The prestressing wires in the pipe amplify the signal that is recorded by the "receiver". If there are broken wires, the signal is distorted. A measurement of the distortion quantifies the number of broken wires.

Today

With the help of grants from Canada’s Industrial Research Assistance Program, PPIC has been able to deliver on its commitments, building credibility and attracting more funding in the process. In March 2009, PPIC received an $800,000 grant from Sustainable Development Technology Canada to develop its PipeDiver technology, which will allow the inspection of full pipes. Besides keeping the pipes in service, PipeDiver could save the equivalent of 1.5 Olympic swimming pools full of water for every mile of pipe that’s not drained.

Upon research of certain Art projects I have come across the firm, Commonwealth, multiple times. I have started a page [here]. I would like to make the page live. Since there is already a "commonwealth" entry for the despription of the term, I would like to publish the article as Commonwealth (creative studio). I don't think it's ready for the mainspace just yet. It doesn't indicate sufficiently why the company is important or significant, but even if it survived speedy deletion on that basis, it will need more references to reliable sources to support notability. – ukexpat (talk) 20:57, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Firstly the picture at File:Vijay Koparkar2.jpg is very problematic. It does not appear to have been released under a free license, and there is no source information. You are not able to donate images that belong to other people or organisations, unless the owner has provided evidence that they have released it under a free copyright. The water mark gives a strong clue that this is not free. Some of the language seems promotional such as "He is equally adept ". Reference number 1 is of dubious reliability. It would be a good idea to have more references to confirm the world tour, which seems to be the only claim to importance. Whether this man meets the notability standards is most likely to be determined by WP:MUSIC. It is very likely that the newspapers in the foreign countries will have mentioned the tour too. A scanned copy of something will likely be a copyright violation too! References don't have to be online, it makes it easy for us to confirm if they are, but newspapers or films will do. A statue of the person could count for notability too. Hi, unfortunately this sort of reference is not independent and does not show notability. You need more references from other sources such as newspapers or magazines.
