See you later, you guys. I'm saying 'later' because I don't want this to be goodbye, but the great path of life seems to have taken me elsewhere. Maybe someday it will go full circle. This is a great site, and a great community. Go easy on each other and remember that there's a good chance that you and your fellow editor have the same goal in mind. To all my friends and enemies, and everyone in between, I wish you the best of luck in life and love.

Cheers,

P.S. for the sake of aiding the newcomers and historical value, I'm keeping my userpage as is (I always hated it when people cleared off all the links I used on their pages...) If my pages need to be deleted, so be it. I trust the community's judgment.

Infinite backlogs and Such

Here are some backlogs I usually work on. Wikipedia needs a small army to empty out this work, so feel free to jump in and help out with them. There are many more backlogs than this, of course, but these are the ones I usually do.

Here are some tasks you can do:

About Me

My wikipedia time is taken up by editing languistic topics and anything that tickles my fancy, counterbalanced by interacting on community-related pages such as talkpages and XFDs. I truly enjoy being here and editing wikipedia, and I believe that this community is one of the most constructive groups on the internet (of course, I haven't really been in any other internet community, so this judgement is a little biased).

My time on wikipedia is somewhat sporadic, as I never know exactly when I will have free time in my schedule. When I first stumbled upon this place, I must admit that I did not take the project very seriously. However, my respect for the people here has increased as I've witnessed many instances of teamwork within the encyclopedia. For all of the vandals and trolls that crawl across these pages attempting to disassemble things, there are many more wikipedians who are willing to rely on each other to keep things in order. And that is the reason why I stay here: there will always be someone else supporting another.

Language stuff

I am a sort of linguist by hobby, I like looking at the ways that people evolve a language, so I have a particular fascination with creoles and pidgins. I know a decent amount of french, but I can't speak it very well (I posess a Midwestern American accent that follows me from language to language). I know enough spanish to speak in the present. The subjunctive is too much of a pain for me to want to seriously want to learn it. I've been trying to learn chinese, but I find its way of indicating politeness or informality difficult—and I'm trying to teach myself the language from a book, which hasn't worked out too well. Chinese is nice because of its isolationist nature, I find myself marvelling at the logical layout of its semantics. Japanese is another language that I've dabbled in, although it has a complex writing system that boggles my mind, even if I do understand its framework. And I can't forget about Esperanto and Interlingua—It was because of these conlangs that I discovered my interest in language. If you are the sort of person who finds foreign language learning and comprehension difficult, I would recommend learning an artificial language such as these; they may change your entire paradigm about human language, as they did with mine.

The funny thing about wikipedia is that it forces one to be articulate in order to effectively explain concepts. Since I've been editing here, my grasp of the written English language has gone from being stilted and almost laughable to being coherent and manageable. That isn't to say I'm a prescriptivist, but I do think that there is a rhythm to speech and writing, whether it be Beowulf or Tupac.
