[edit] Background
Alaska's At-large congressional district covers the entire state, and has been represented by Republican Don Young since 1973. Due to recent controversies, Young was almost defeated in a primary by Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell. Polling showed by Democratic nominee Ethan Berkowitz leading Young up to the election. However, Young won by a margin of 16,000 votes.[1]
Outgoing State House Speaker John Harris has indicated a desire to run.[2]
