SNS REAAL is a Dutch financial services provider, offering insurance and banking services to private individuals and medium and small enterprises. The banking services are offered through SNS Bank, while the insurances are offered through independent intermediaries. The company was formed in 1997 when the SNS Groep merged with REAAL Groep. Both these companies were formed through a number of mergers and acquisitions and the company continues to expand this way. In 2007 SNS Reaal acquired the Dutch divisions of AXA and Swiss life, making it the 5th insurance company in the Netherlands, with a market share of more than 9%.
The company went public on may 18th 2006 and was listed on the AMX index in 2007. But while it may be listed, over 65% of the shares remain in the hands of a single foundation.
