Mitre was established in Huddersfield in 1817, Mitre Sports International is a supplier of balls, boots, and accessories for football, rugby, netball, and cricket. Currently Mitre are the suppliers for all the footballs in the English Football League and Blue Square Conference leagues. They relocated to London in 1956.
Mitre footballs are used by the Football Association of Wales, the Scottish Premier League, the Carling Cup and by all 72 Football League Clubs. Away from football Mitre is official ball supplier to the England Netball team and provides the official match ball to the Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) for their Club and Six Nations matches.[citation needed]
Mitre has contracted numerous rugby and football players to wear their products. Footballers include Hartlepool United striker Richard Barker and from Finland, Kalle Sorja who plays for FC Viikingit. From Rugby, New Zealand player Luke McAlister of Sale Sharks, Wales player Kevin Morgan of Newport Gwent Dragons, Rocky Elsom of Australia and Waratahs and South Africa and Sharks stars Albert van den Berg and Johann Muller. In the UK Saracens' Kevin Yates, Bristol's Peter Bracken, Pete Anglesea at Sale Sharks and Nathan Thomas at Leeds Tykes. British goalkeepers Shane Supple (Ipswich), Russell Hoult (Stoke City), and Chad Harpur (Kilmarnock) wear Mitre gloves.[citation needed]
Apart from Ipswich Town and Huddersfield Town from the UK, Mitre is also associated with Ionikos FC and Veria FC of the Greek League and no less than six Clubs in the Hungarian Premier League. In South Africa Mitre are technical sponsors of Moroka Swallows FC.[citation needed]
In February 2006, Mitre announced a 5 year sponsorship of Australian cricket legend Shane Warne.[citation needed]
