Territorial autonomy is a defined part of the state's territory that is authorized to govern itself, manage certain matters handed over to its competence. Typically authorized for an internal cultural identity (by ethnic, religious, linguistic, geographical exclusivity) and its social and economic regulations (legislative, administrative and political structures of self-government).

Azad Jammu and Kashmir Islamic republic	Pakistan	Azad-Jammu and Kashmir is a de facto independent state part of the former Kashmir and Jammu within the de jure territory of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, diplomatically recognized by no UN member states.
Galmudug self-proclaimed autonomous state	Somalia	Galmudug State proclaimed autonomy within Somalia in 2006. The Somali Transitional federal Government has not recognized this act.
